happy fourth of july....

The 4th was very fun. We went down to Beatrice AL which is as big as it sounds. Seriously. My college roommate's family farm (well, I call it the plantation) is there and her aunt, who lives there, was having a huge party for the whole town. I think all 150 townspeople were there. The church ladies had been cooking for days. The cake lady made the best homemade, completely from scratch caramel cake I have ever had--I could have eaten a whole bowl of the icing. My roommate and her family (3 kids), another girlfriend and her family (3 kids) and our family(with our 2 kids) were the only ones who did not live in town. Boy, did we stand out. All the people were like, now, where are your people from? and what do they do? and what sorority/fraternity were you and your husband in? Very old south.

But Luke loved it. Tons of kids to play with, a pond to fish and boat on, about 60 acres of woods to run around in and a real-life seesaw!! Little kid Disney World. They had tons of food and fireworks and sparklers for the kids and all that. Then we came back Sunday and the kids were all strung out so we just put them in bed at like 7:30 and skipped the official fireworks. They did not know the difference. But it was wonderful.

Daddy and Luke out on the lake...

I am helping paddle too, I promise....Check out how huge the life jacket is!!

This was on the seesaw--Luke was so thrilled I just cannot describe it fully. Amazing how something that was once a commonplace playground toy but now is such a safety no-no that almost no kids today have ever seen one would be so captivating. The only reason Luke knew what it was is from books.

Doing sparklers in my pj's....
