2 yr check-up numbers...

Luke had his two-year check-up today and the good news is...no shots this time!! Here are his latest stats: 37 inches tall, up from 35.25inch at 18 months and still hanging strong in the >98% percentile and 31 lb 5.5 ounces (14 kg), up from 26lbs, 9.5 oz (12kg) at 18 months--from the 50% percentile to the 85%! Almost 5 lbs in 6 months! We are still waiting for the slowdown in growth that "all toddlers have." He does still love to eat, thankfully mostly fruits and veggies and yogurt and, of course, his milk. There is not much fat on the boy--he is just an active, lean, and very tall kid. The doc was impressed with how much he knew, such as his colors and his numbers to ten and all his animals and trucks and things, although he does have some delay in his articulation and enunciation. But so did his daddy at this age, so she said it does tends to run in families, especially boys, and she is not concerned.

Best of all for Luke was the fact that the doc's dog was visiting the office and he got to pet and get kisses and love on the dog to his heart's content. And no "owies" too!! What a great doctor's visit! Although he did have to tell everybody about his "skin knee" that he got this weekend. It is the most pathetic tiny, little scrap you have ever seen, but he is so proud of it...and the fact that he can say "skin knee"!!

birthday, part ii....

After Luke's actual birth-date, we went to Nashville to visit family there and have the second half of his birthday celebration. Luke's great-grandmother, Mur, is recovering from surgery in a rehabilitation hospital and so we went there to have a little birthday party and open presents. He loved his "choc-la cupcake," of course!! Luke got lots of fun presents, including a tricycle from Gigi, and really enjoyed seeing everyone. There will be lots of pictures on shutterfly (it has been acting up) and some below.

2 year old boy!!!

Luke's birthday was good. Low key, just us mostly, but very fun. First thing in the morning, Luke had his first little sports class at the community center and he freaked out, like I knew he would, but it was not unexpected nor was he the only one. It is non-parent participation, in fact they want you outside the room. He did great until he looked around and realized that he did not know anybody here and Sam and I were not behind him. Then he turned into crying boy with no bones. But so did 4 out of the 6 kids. The only ones who did not were the 2 yr olds that were closer to 3 than 2. But the teacher has 5 kids of her own and was very much like "this happens everytime on the first day and most of the time the second day. By the 4th week or so, they all are mostly good with it." So Sam had to go in with him as did the other 3 moms, and he did fine once someone he knew was there. It is a process, hopefully in preparation for preschool in the fall. But they played with a parachute and some bubbles and shot some basketballs at little hoops and then got stickers. Hooray stickers!

Once we got over that, we came home and we had decorated with Pooh and Tigger (his favorite right now.) Balloons and some streamers and a tablecloth with Pooh on it and he was very excited about the balloons most of all. Throwing them, kicking them, etc. We got him simple presents: some new Playdoh, some sidewalk chalk, new crayons, some new bubble stuff, a xylophone and a recorder to go with his muscial instruments, and some mega-block cars. Our plan is to build a wooden swingset in the backyard this summer, so we did not get Luke too many things. Then we ate lunch at home, and went to a Braves baseball game, which he really did enjoy for about an hour and a half. When he was tired of being there, he looked at Sam and said, "Go? Go?" Ok then. After that, we stopped and got ice cream. Luke had his own cup of vanilla, which he has never really had ice cream before, except maybe a bite of Daddy's at home. So that was very exciting and actually what he talks about most of all. "I-cream, i-cream, mama." Came home and played with bubble stuff and some water guns and sidewalk chalk outside for a longtime. Then we had some dinner and a birthday cupcake, bath and bed. That was pretty much it. It was a big day for him, with only a minimal nap in the car, but he seemed to enjoy it and have fun. As much as a 2-yr-old, who really does not have a concept of what a birthday is, can.

Lots of pictures on shutterfly!
